"Music begins where the power of words ends."
Composer, orchestrator and arranger, Pierre-Dominique Zgonec develops a musical world shaped by classical and orchestral music as much as by rock, metal, folk and ambient music.
He discovered the guitar and music at the age of eleven and initially developed his skills largely through self-teaching. Over the years, his practice has expanded from performance to composition, orchestration, arranging and music production. Alongside his work as a composer, he has been teaching guitar, bass, music production and music theory for seven years, notably at the VOCE National Centre for Musical Creation in Pigna, one of France’s eight national centres dedicated to musical creation. He has also taught at Le Timpanu, a music school affiliated with the conservatory, where he notably coached and conducted students from the CHAM programme as part of ensemble practice.
He holds a DEM in Classical Guitar from the Henri Tomasi Conservatory of Corsica, where he also developed his work as a composer and orchestrator. During his studies, he had the opportunity to conduct the conservatory orchestra in concert and to perform his own Concertino for Guitar in Three Movements. He received training in film and media composition with Studio Capitale Paris and further developed his skills through private lessons with Gilles Alonzo, professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Lyon, a leading European institution in composition for film and visual media.
His work as a composer soon led him towards film and visual media. He has composed the music for several Corsican film productions, including Pour l’Amour du jeu by Clément Bompart, A Casa by David Olivesi and Godcasting by Florent Agostini, receiving internationnal awards. His music can also be heard in numerous productions released online, some of which have accumulated several hundred thousand views, notably through collaborations with true-crime filmmaker and content creator Lionel Camy.
His career has also taken him to various stages across Corsica, through film concerts as well as performances dedicated to classical, contemporary and traditional guitar. Among his many collaborations, he contributed to the arrangements for a tribute concert to the Fratelli Vincenti, eminent Corsican singer-songwriters, helping bring an unreleased song back to life from a rediscovered manuscript.
Today, Pierre-Dominique Zgonec devotes himself fully to his personal compositions, both through his music productions and his work as a solo guitarist. He is also pursuing an ongoing research and arranging project centred on forgotten or little-known Corsican pieces, revisiting them through a contemporary approach in order to bring them back into the spotlight and contribute, in his own way, to their transmission and preservation.
This diverse background informs a particularly open approach to composition. While he explores a wide range of musical aesthetics, he has a particular affinity for orchestral music — both classical and cinematic, ambient music, rock, metal and folk, sometimes blending these influences to create distinctive sonic worlds for both screen and stage.
